Month of Photography Los Angeles is upon us and the opening reception for the official exhibitions is tonight. Six esteemed artists will be showing at the Pacific Design Center, West of Hollywood and right around the corner from my house. I will definitely be there.
Check out the upcoming schedule of MOPLA events and come meet me tonight for a drink and a gander.
I'm off to the disco tonight. Every first Sunday of the month the incomparable Sir Heffington and sleazy sexy Mario Diaz throw a rather underground, authentic disco party in the heart of Chinatown. And make no mistake, Full Frontal Disco is a party. No standing around aimlessly texting, trying to look cool and bored. This is where we go to shake our asses and laugh and sweat. The fog is so deep you can't tell the topless women apart from the topless trannies and the music is so decadently disco that you really don't care as long as they're dancing with you. I love it more than monkeys in hats and I'll see you there.
Full Frontal Disco
Every first Sunday, 10pm
Grand Star Jazz Club
943 N. Broadway
Check out the scene after the jump and try to spot me...
Bidgood is the forefather and obvious inspiration for modern fantastical photographers Pierre et Gilles (another obsession) and David LaChapelle. He lent an obviously gay eye to mid-century physique photography and elevated it with storybook production design and hand-painted prints. He did this at a time when gay art was not only on the fringe but wasn't even considered art. He is a true pioneer and a talented one at that. While I think his successors have taken his aesthetic and improved upon it, mostly due to bigger budgets allowing a grander scale of sets and better models, I still love his work for its pure vision and dreamlike charm.

The Iowa supreme court today ruled unanimously for same-sex marriage, overturning a 1998 law limiting marriage to "one man and one woman", further proving that California is a mess. You can read all about the historic decision at Towleroad.
And if you'd like to celebrate for our corn-fed brothers and sisters in the midwest, surrounded by LA gays who have less rights but better shoes, there is a rally and party in Los Feliz tonight.
But seriously, congratulations Iowa. Make the most of it.
